Welcome to the Chandler Point Cottage Owners’ Website

First things first. This website is specifically intended to serve the Chandler Point fractional share cottage community located at 1033 Carnegie Lane in Haliburton – although we welcome everyone to use and benefit from the information on this website.

It’s a bit confusing because our community at Chandler Point is the first shared cottage ownership development built by Chandler Point Corporation in 1998. Since the success of that first project, Chandler Point Corporation has developed four other shared cottage communities and remains the leader in the field today. If you are interested in learning more about shared cottage ownership or buying/leasing a shared cottage-like those in our community, visit the Chandler Point Corporation website.

With that said, Chandler Point and the property on which our cottages are located is a gem – both historically and environmentally. Stewardship of the land has been well-guided over the years, thanks to the commitment of individual cottage owners, the leadership of the Board, and the dedication of members of the Landscape Committee.

An unanticipated benefit of the 2019 decision to manage the six cottages at Chandler Point as an independent entity meant that the Chandler Point community gained greater flexibility in setting its own priorities. As a result, an opportunity opened up for Chandler Point cottage owners to strengthen our stewardship of the land and protect the legacy of its natural setting.

On this website, we have collected and compiled all kinds of information and resources about our shared property so that, as a community, we can be “a partner with nature – as nature intended.” Our aim on this website is to inform, educate and nurture a sense of stewardship among the cottage owners of Chandler Point.

This section will tell you about the geology of the area. Here you will also find a site plan for Chandler Point, an Indigenous land acknowledgment, and links to resources for additional information.

People

This section tells you about the Indigenous people who were first on this land and a brief overview of the early settlers in Haliburton and Minden. There are also links to resources for additional information.

History

This section tells you about Royal View Lodge, the resort that used to be on our current site.  It also tells you about the innovative idea of fractional cottage ownership and the journey of its concept and development in the 1990s to the reality of Chandler Point cottages today.

Nature

In this section you will find a catalogue of local species of trees, plants (other than trees), fungus, land animals, birds and fishes. Each entry is identified with one or more pictures taken at Chandler Point (with a few elusive exceptions – but we are working on that) as well as its common name, scientific name, where it has been sighted, a brief description of its characteristics and significance to the local ecosystem. There is always a link to inaturalist taxa info  and often additional reference sources.

Stewardship

This section explains what the Chandler Point cottage owners’ community is doing and what you can do individually to protect endangered species and care for the lake, the land and all living things at Chandler Point.  Here you will find a hodgepodge of resources – from reading lists to nature-inspired activities for kids.  Working together, we can leave a legacy for future generations – while we enjoy everything Chandler Point offers today.

Connections

This section is a private area for Chandler Point cottage owners’ business and correspondence.
